I know a little turtle who lives in a box,
(Make an outline of a box with your hands)

He swam in the water,
(Make swimming motion with hands.)

And climbed onto rocks.
(Fingers walk up fist of other hand.)

He snapped at the fly,
(Snap fingers at imaginary fly.)

He snapped at the flea,
(Snap fingers at flea.)

He snapped at the mosquito,
(Snap fingers at mosquito.)

And he snapped at me! (Point at self.)

He caught that fly, (Clap hands.)

He caught that flea, (Clap hands.)

He caught that mosquito, (Clap hands

But he didn't catch me! (Shake head)

(To the Tune of: "The Addams Family Theme")

There's beetles and there's crickets,

June bugs and caterpillars.

Flies, ants and wiggly spiders,

And there's bumblebees.

Bugs in my yard. (Clap, Clap)

Bugs in my yard. (Clap, Clap)

Bugs in my yard, bugs in my yard, bugs in my yard. (Clap, Clap)

1(2,3,4) little firefly(ies)

Flashing in the night.

Blink, blink, blink, blink,

(Wiggle finger[s] in rhythm.)

Here comes another one (add one finger.)

With its (their) flashing light(s)!

Closing Verse:

5 little fireflies

Flashing in the night.

Blink, blink, blink, blink,

(Wiggle fingers in rhythm.)

What a beautiful sight!

Give each child a plate with a craft stick and a dab of frosting on it along with an individual bag of min-round cookies. Encourage the children to use the frosting to stick the cookies together to make a caterpillar. Provide a bowl of small candies to stick to the head for eyes and snips of Twizzlers for the antennae.
This can also be done with mini-crackers using spreadable cheese for the glue.

29 April 2008 @ 01:43 pm
Use two crescent fruit slice candies to shape two butterfly wings on the top of a cupcake. Place two strips of licorice down the center for the body, spreading the ends to form the antennae for the butterfly.
